Make the Most of Family Moves During the Winter

The winter season poses a special challenge for movers and families alike. Not only can weather be an issue, but so can the holidays — creating a potential for stress that’s higher than usual. With a few considerations, you can set expectations for clients and be their hero. Find out how.

Help Clients Plan for an Inclement Climate

Whether winter in your area means snow, rain or intense heat, you can count on the weather to change at a moment’s notice. Help your clients prepare for fluctuating conditions by asking if they’d like to keep any clothing and accessories with them and by providing them with a checklist to help them button up their home for the next family.

Show them you have their back. Monitor the weather and share updates. Explain how you’re preparing for their winter move. Many people get so caught up in selling their home, decluttering and handling last-minute details that they forget to check the forecast where they are and where they’re headed.

If you are having an initial meeting with a client who anticipates moving within the next few months, encourage them to book early. Explain to them that holiday schedules and winter weather can account for slower deliveries. Don’t forget AI. When you know what “prompts” to write, AI can return results to help you plan a safe winter long-distance move

Keep the Happy in Their Holidays

Does your client want delivery on New Year’s Eve? Is Christmas too late for their furniture to arrive? Discuss timing and any additional costs up front. Put everything in writing so the family doesn’t forget or feel surprised.

Find out what’s important to them. Do they want to decorate? Host a family dinner? Dress for a special event? Pack priority items in clearly labeled boxes and make them easily accessible for clients to unpack.

As a small gesture of goodwill, consider offering extra packing materials or small services at no charge. To help families think ahead, send our quick winter moving tips to them.

Sometimes the Giver Becomes the Receiver

Moving can be emotional and stressful. Families on the move, especially during the winter, will appreciate your extra care and foresight. By going the extra mile now, you’re not just helping families manage their move, you’re also setting up your business for referrals and positive reviews in the new year!
